PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
